PRESENTATION

DESCRIPTION

Employee Handbooks – Litigation Avoidance for Your Business

Whether you have 10 employees or 1000 workers across the globe, your company’s first line of prevention and often your best defense is your company’s employee handbook.  However, outdated policies that fail to address changes in the law or your business practices can be a sword rather than a shield.  This workshop will outline the types of policies that are essential for every handbook, and the workshop includes sample forms and guides for best practices.

Keeping ICE Off Your Doorsteps –

Best Practices for Compliance with Immigration and I-9 Laws

As the number of worksite raids skyrocket, business owners and managers are at risk now more than ever for an audit of their hiring practices.  This workshop will provide you with key strategies and audit tips to ensure your business is ready if Immigration and Customs Enforcement (“ICE”) comes knocking.

Workplace Harassment –
Is Your Business Prepared?

Good managers know that the best prevention against workplace harassment claims is a sound written policy against workplace harassment and proper training of supervisors and employees regarding the company’s policy and workplace harassment laws.  A failure to keep your policies updated and your managers trained can leave you without a defense if an employee files a workplace harassment claim. This presentation will provide you with the key components of an effective workplace harassment policy and assist you in formulating a valuable training program for your company.

Family and Medical Leave Act – Employer’s Guide to Compliance

Employers with 50 or more employees in a 75-mile radius need to stay abreast of changes in this law.  There are several recent changes in the FMLA that require employers to update their policies, procedures, and forms.  This workshop will help you understand how the changes affect your business, and the workshop includes “best practices” guides.

Termination and Discipline –
What Every Manager Should Know to Avoid Legal Minefields

Good managers know the value of maintaining an effective workforce.  Doing so requires discipline or termination of ineffective employees.  However, it can be daunting for some managers who are faced with a difficult termination decision, particularly when a possible termination claim looms in the background.  This workshop will focus on proper discipline and termination techniques as well as proper documentation of employee and company files.

Employee Wage Garnishment and Child Support Withholding Orders – Avoiding the Pitfalls

In today’s economy, many businesses are dealing with employee wage garnishments and new or revised child support withholding (“IWOs”) orders. Failing to deal properly with these orders may subject an employer to liability for the amount of the employee’s debt. Federal and state laws limit the amount an employer may withhold from an employee’s wages, and employers should be diligent to make sure they do not run afoul of these laws.  This program will address your questions on how to handle IWOs or wage garnishments as well as the effects of an employee’s bankruptcy filing on those issues.

How to Protect Your Company’s Intellectual Property

A company’s intellectual property – its trademarks, service marks, tradenames, and copyrights – may be one of its most significant and valuable groups of assets.  However, companies of all sizes fail to adequately protect against the “theft” of those assets.  This workshop will assist you in the proper planning to protect these valuable business assets.

If there are additional topics of interest to your business that are not listed above, please contact us to discuss a custom-designed workshop that meets your specific business needs.
