Immigration and Naturalization
Armstrong Law represents businesses and individual foreign nationals in the complex immigration process, including employment-based temporary and permanent residency, family and marriage-based permanent residency, and naturalization. We provide personalized services to businesses and foreign national individuals during the complex immigration process. We assist local and international companies in obtaining the appropriate visas necessary for U.S. workers, and we also help develop short-term and long-term objectives and goals for placement of foreign national workers. Those plans may include temporary visas (including H, O, L, E, and other nonimmigrant category visas) as well as permanent residence through employment with the U.S. company.
We also routinely represent health care organizations and universities in filling their critical needs for health care workers, researchers, professors, and other staff. This may include filing employers’ labor certifications and immigrant petitions for alien workers. In addition, we assist foreign nationals in adjustment of status or consular processing as may be required.
We also regularly represent foreign nationals in obtaining permanent residency through family-based relationships, including permanent residency based upon marriage to a U.S. citizen. We can also assist permanent residents in the final steps of the immigration process once they become eligible for naturalization.
We can also help businesses comply with evolving immigration laws in the employment context, including compliance with federal I-9 laws, E-Verify, and other related requirements.
Employment Law Defense and Claim Prevention
Armstrong Law represents businesses and their owners in various matters throughout the business life cycle, including developing employment policies and responding to employment-related claims, and corporate compliance.
Whether it is a small, five-employee operation or a multi-national business with hundreds or even thousands of employees, compliance with the vast body of federal and state employment and immigration laws can be challenging. We advise employers of all sizes on all employment-related and immigration-related issues, including development and implementation of employee handbooks and other workplace policies, training management and employees on compliance with those policies, and preparing other employment and immigration related claim prevention strategies.
We can assist with proper terminations and reductions in force. If charges of discrimination (such as sex, age, race, national origin, religion, or disability claims) or other workplace related claims or lawsuits are filed against the business, we can assist in defending those claims. The best defense to employment-related claims is proper advance planning – calling an attorney before acting is often the best litigation avoidance assurance.
Trademarks, Service Marks and Copyrights
Armstrong Law represents businesses and their owners in various matters throughout the business life cycle, including protection of intellectual property (trademarks, service marks, and copyrights). A company’s intellectual property – its trademarks, service marks, tradenames, and copyrights – may be one of its most significant and valuable groups of assets. However, companies of all sizes fail to adequately protect against the “theft” of those assets. Likewise, many companies invest significant time and expense on the front end to develop and implement new logos, slogans, and business trade-names, only to later learn those names are already in use by someone else.
Armstrong Law represents businesses in the proper planning and registrations at state and federal laws that may be necessary to protect these valuable business assets. We can assist your business in the early development and growth stage, and we can also help you protect your long-term competitive position that is attributable to your business intellectual property. We can also assist with appropriate intellectual property due diligence matters that arise in the context of business sales, acquisitions, and mergers. We also assist with the transfer and protection of intellectual property and related matters, such as licensing agreements, confidentiality agreements, and covenants not to compete. We also assist individuals who create written works, sound recordings, or other artistic creations with proper registration and protection of copyrights in those works.
